International PhD Workshop 2025

The International PhD Workshop 2025 was held from 27 to 30 October 2025 in Bad Herrenalb, Germany, bringing together doctoral researchers, professors, and early-career scientists from several institutes. The event was financially supported by the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN2plus).

Over four days, participants engaged in scientific presentations, technical discussions, and collaborative activities focusing on:

  • Two-phase flow thermal-hydraulics

  • Heat transfer mechanisms in nuclear systems

  • High-fidelity CFD tools

  • Uncertainty quantification for nuclear safety applications

  • Data-informed modelling for reactor analysis

The workshop served as a valuable platform for international networking, knowledge exchange, and capacity building within the nuclear engineering community.

The workshop welcomed researchers from KIT and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). In particular, we were honoured by the presence of:

  • Prof. Meng Zhao, School of Mechanical Engineering, SJTU

  • Prof. Xiaojing Liu, Executive Vice Dean, School of Smart Energy, SJTU

Their participation strengthened the international collaboration between European research institutes and Asian partners, supporting ENEN’s mission to expand nuclear education networks worldwide.

Prof. Xiaojing Liu, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Smart Energy at Shanghai Jiao Tong Universityand Prof. Meng Zhao from the School of Mechanical Engineering at SJTU delivered their opening remarks.
