3rd Sino-German Symposium on Fundamentals of Advanced Nuclear Safety Technology

IATF

The 3rd Sino-German Workshop on Fundamentals of Advanced Nuclear Safety Technology (3rd SG-FANS) was held in Xi’an, China, on September 25-27 2019, co-organized by Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and hosted by XJTU. The first two symposiums were held on March 8-12, 2015 in Shanghai and on September 12-15, 2017 in Karlsruhe, respectively. The main purpose of the workshop series SG-FANS is to maintain the platform for scientific exchange and for the generation of bilateral collaboration between the nuclear communities of both countries.

The technical program of the workshop consisted of five technical sessions and 5 topic sessions. The 5 technical sessions with 23 presentations gave R&D overviews in various organizations and called for up-to-the-minute research and engineering results in the field of nuclear safety. The five topic sessions dealt with 5 important topics of common interests. They are: (1) codes development and validation, (2) experimental techniques and data base, (3) severe accident-I: IVR related phenomena, (4) severe accident-II: Containment safety, and (5) SMR safety. The topic sessions were arranged in the style of round table discussion. Based on in-depth discussion, the topics and procedure of possible future collaboration were proposed, and future actions were identified. A technical tour of the nuclear safety research facilities in XJTU was included.

The workshop was attended by about 80 participants, among them 17 from Germany and more than 60 from China. They represented nearly all important institutions of nuclear safety research in both countries.
